While some nutritionists may insist that humans can transform plant sources of ALA into DHA from foods such as flax, chia or green leafy vegetables, this is only conditionally true and is highly inefficient. While the cells of plants, like algae, are photosynthetic, our mammalian cells do not contain the enzymes necessary for the de novo synthesis of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is the precursor for the synthesis of all omega-3 fatty acids. Endogenous synthesis of DHA from ALA in humans is much lower and more limited than previously assumed. Most clinically proven benefits for omega 3 actually come down to DHA, which makes DHA a crucial nutrient to get in our diet as our body cannot produce it on its own. *(8)


A common assumption is that EPA may not be that important for neurological function because the levels of EPA in the brain aren't very high. However, EPA reduces neuro-inflammation by competing against arachidonic acid (omega-6) for access to the same enzymes needed to produce inflammatory eicosanoids. In other words, EPA prevents inflammation by inhibiting synthesis of the molecules responsible for inflammation in the first place. When we consume adequate amounts of EPA, we are able to reduce and prevent cellular inflammation in the brain eliminating depression, ADHD, brain trauma, and other cognitive/neurological ailments. *(9)

Our Grassfed Pure Marrow is a whole food dietary supplement that provides 100% pure red and yellow bone marrow. The suggested use of this supplement is to take 6 capsules per day (even though it technically is food) or as directed by a healthcare professional — for added support, the dose can be doubled. If consuming more than six capsules at once, the doses should be separated by at least three hours to improve tolerability.



Most customers tolerate our supplements without incident; however, approximately 5 to 10% of customers (usually with an autoimmune condition) may experience a detoxification reaction. Detoxification reactions go by many different names including healing reactions, healing crises, cleansing reactions (or) Herxheimer reactions with hallmark symptoms of nausea, headache, lethargy, dizziness and other flu-like symptoms. In this instance, detoxification reactions are generally an indication that detoxification pathways in the body are back online... cells suddenly have an opportunity to release an even greater than normal quantity of stored toxins, metabolic wastes, pathogens and unwanted material. 

A detoxification reaction is more likely to occur when starting with the full suggested serving size of 6 capsules per day. If you know that you are sensitive to supplements and/or you have an autoimmune condition, you may wish to start slow when adding this product to your current regimen. Tolerability can be greatly improved by starting with just 1 (or) 2 capsules a day and increasing by just 1 capsule every couple of days — this method may take a full two weeks to achieve the desired serving size of 6 capsules per day.

Our early ancestors didn’t brush… didn’t floss… didn’t get cavities. This is my “go to” line because it seems that the more we brush and floss and use fluoride, the more cavities we get. Obviously, brushing and flossing aren’t the answer, but don’t tell this to the multi-billion dollar dental industry (nor to the allopathic dentist). Our liver product is high in real, preformed vitamin A (5,000 iu per serving). That said, if you are deficient in vitamin D, vitamin K2 and/or magnesium, you will not see as much benefit as you could (nor) will you be optimizing other important health metrics. Do you regularly get mid day sun exposure, or take a vitamin D3 supplement? Do you eat fermented veggies like kimchi or sauerkraut, or take a vitamin K2 complex supplement? Do you take a magnesium supplement (I personally recommend a transdermal magnesium oil spray because it's virtually impossible to get enough magnesium from diet alone).

The take home message here is live life in harmony with nature, the way of our early ancestors… love your bone soups, look to liver, get sensible sun exposure, eat your fermented foods (natto reigns supreme) and mind your magnesium. If you want fresh breath, brush your teeth (see below). If you want oral health, nourish your body.

People with periodontal issues (e.g. deep pockets, recurrent infection, bone loss/recession, etc) will also need additional support from whole bone extract (bone, marrow and cartilage), CoQ10 (or Beef Heart) and collagen. Ideally, we would consume these nourishing nutrients by indulging in the deliciousness of true bone broth, bone marrow and organ meats (heart is the richest source of CoQ10 that exists in nature). These additional nose-to-tail nutrients could easily be the missing link to the strength, energy and other health benefits that we are all after. P.S. For those that need intensive support to regain your dental strength and health, consider practicing a ketogenic diet as a "supplement" to everything above. Ketosis helps to deprive the bad bacteria of an energy source... less energy means less fermentation... means less acidic byproducts to demineralize teeth and bone (think recession)... Wife, the biological dentist, has been using this supplemental strategy with her patients for over a decade, way before it became "trendy!" It's also incredibly helpful to swish with sea salt water throughout the day, and especially after eating and drinking, to maintain a balanced pH. Lastly, Bovine Tracheal Cartilage (BTC) has proven to be incredibly helpful with treatment resistant conditions and wound healing (tons of peer-reviewed studies on these topics). As far as brushing goes, by all means, do it when you feel like it... we recommend using a Bass brush (or) a chewing stick just like our early ancestors did which shows parallel, or even greater efficacy, as compared to standard brushing (see study). When we brush, we use a homemade concoction of bentonite clay, coconut oil, colloidal silver and sea salt with a dash of peppermint oil. There's even a commercial product out there by Uncle Harry's Natural Products that's very similar.

  • Grass Fed Thymus - get this for immune support if dealing with chronic and / or recurrent infections

Wife also makes her patients turn off their wifi routers at night, leave their cell phones out of the bedroom and remove electrical devices within a 12 foot radius of the bed (one's pillow should also not be near a power outlet). If you can get away from bathing in non-native EMFs, health and healing has a better chance. Many times, all you need to do is use an EMF meter to see where the fields have biological implications and then re-position the offensive device... sometimes you may need to re-position your bed, chair or sitting area.

If you've tried absolutely EVERYTHING and you're still having issues, cut out the phytates and the lectins for six months and stay the course with everything above.


There's K2 (MK-7) that comes from bacterial fermentation and then there's K2 (MK-4) that comes from animals.

K2 (MK-7). Get this from fermented veggies like homemade kimchi and sauerkraut made with Kinetic Culture (my favorite) or buy a boutique brand at the store and make sure that it's raw, NOT pasteurized. If you can spoon some nattō into your mouth (and manage to swallow it), do it every time there's a blue moon or a solar eclipse. You'll also find some of this MK-7 variety in diary too.

K2 (MK-4 ). Get this from grass fed / grass finished organ meats, bone marrow, wild fish eggs, and to a lesser degree, pasture raised (totally organic) egg yolks. You can even get this in desiccated Grass Fed Beef Brain / desiccated Bone Marrow in capsule form (yes, that's a shameless plug!). If you throw in the towel altogether, make sure that you're getting a good K2 complex supplement with multiple forms of K2 (especially MK-7 and MK-4) and make sure that it's GMO free since it will likely be coming from soy... you already know the backstory there.

I have had the distinct pleasure of getting to deeply know many of my patients that abstain from red meat as well as other animal foods. One thing is for certain, the world needs more people like you... the world needs more people that make such conscientious decisions, with such principle-centered compassion, and such regard for all walks of life. I have no doubt that this, in part, is why I've developed such kinship-like bonds with many of my vegetarian patients... patients that have become wonderful friends... friends that I deeply care about. This is why it breaks my heart to see the devastating consequences of abstaining from our most basic nutritional needs... the critically important fat soluble vitamins (A, D & K — especially MK-4 because it is what fuels the body, down to the mitochondrial electron transport chain but it is also involved in creating the vitamin K dependent proteins, activating specific genes and making testosterone (and other hormones)) and others.

With over 20 years of treating patients, I have come to the definitive conclusion that the poorest of oral health is categorically presented by that of vegans and vegetarians. Their oral health is almost always worse than that of the chain smoker, candy addicts and even the chemo patient. In the early stages, these patients present with tooth sensitivity and gum recession (which is actually early bone loss). In the moderate stages, the presentation includes deeper decay, exposed root tips and the shifting of teeth. Advanced stages include chronic and recurrent infections (root canals and abscesses) and some tooth mobility. That which presents in the mouth is an indication of what's going on in the body and brain. Commonly, these patients also present with anxiety and malaise, eczema, muscle rigidity, general aches, low energy, gut and digestive issues, high inflammation markers, allergies and brain fog. And yes, fertility, libido and thyroid function will also be severely compromised in this patient population as well.

I learned long ago that I couldn't help this patient population unless they changed their diets. While I'd prefer to see the inclusion of organ meats and nourishing animal fats like marrow, suet, tallow and lard, I at least need to see a willingness to practice ovo-lacto vegetarianism and even perhaps pescetarianism. If you can't do this, I can't help you... I've tried and I've tried and I've tried; there's no more amount of trying that can make it work. That said, the following are some of the nutrient dense foods that can provide back some of the fundamental nourishment needed to restore and rehabilitate health and healing:

  • Organic Pastured Eggs; especially the yolks and especially not overcooked
  • Organic Pastured Egg Shells (for the collagen, hyaluronic acid and glycosaminoglycans)
  • Raw Full-Fat Dairy Including Grass Fed Milk, Cream, Butter, Cheeses, Kefir and Yogurts
  • Organic Pastured-Raised Ghee
  • Wild Fish Eggs
  • Skin-On, Bone-In Sardines
  • Highly Suggested Supplements: Liver & Bone Marrow

For my non-vegetarian patients, I won't even consider treating them unless we've addressed the root of the problem. I don't perform band-aid work; as such, they must include the aforementioned foods as well as a diet that's rich in organ meats, bone marrow and the nourishing animal fats that allow the fat soluble activators to do their magic. Like most people, most patients are not willing to make major life changes so I prescribe a lot of Ancestral Supplements prior to performing ANY treatment. I have the highest respect and admiration for those vegetarians that live with such altruistic values. Many of whom I have the pleasure of calling my dear friends. Unfortunately, evolutionary biology is not on your side with the dietary choices that support your beliefs and your health is suffering as a consequence. In honor of the bonds that I have formed with these wonderful people, I am making a plea... I'm asking for your willingness to include the whole egg (including the shells), raw dairy and wild fish eggs into your diet. Not only will this address the root issue related to your oral health conditions, this will address all those other health issues related to mood, skin, gut and fertility that go hand-in-hand with long-term malnourishment. I know this won't help everyone, but if it helps anyone, it's a step in the right direction. Thank you.
